Winners' Viewpoints: The Great 1927 Trans-Pacific Dole Race is available at the link. What was it like to fly from Oakland to Honolulu in a single-engine plane during August 1927? Was the 25,000 dollar prize worth it? Did the resulting fame balance the risk? For the first time ever, this book presents the pilot and navigator's stories written by them within days of their record-setting adventure. Pilot Art Goebel and navigator William V. Davis, Jr. take us with them on the Woolaroc, their orange and blue Travel Air monoplane (NX869) as they enter the hazardous world of Golden Age trans-oceanic air racing.

WACO RNF NC112Y

NC112Y was purchased by Warner Aircraft Engines of Wayne, MI and used as a demonstrator for their engines, primarily in California. Below, from Andy Heins, a starboard profille of the airplane. The Warner Engines livery is clearly visible.

Another photograph of NC112Y is on Register pilot Lonnie Faunce's Web page. NC112Y landed at Tucson from Burbank, CA July 27, 1933 flown by George Willis Tyson. He carried his wife as passenger. They later departed for Oklahoma City, OK.

Below, courtesy of Mr. Heins, is the factory delivery sheet for NC112Y. From the sheet we know the airplane was painted vermillion and silver. This was a very handsome ship. It had a Townend ring and front cockpit cover installed at the factory. While they don't appear on the image above, they are present in the photograph exhibited on Faunce's page at the link.

The record of ownership, below, shows the first sale to Warner Aircraft. It sold just seven months later to Colin Hubbard Smith of Bakersfield, CA. It appears to have remained west of Oklahoma until 1945 when the record ends.
