Winners' Viewpoints: The Great 1927 Trans-Pacific Dole Race is available at the link. What was it like to fly from Oakland to Honolulu in a single-engine plane during August 1927? Was the 25,000 dollar prize worth it? Did the resulting fame balance the risk? For the first time ever, this book presents the pilot and navigator's stories written by them within days of their record-setting adventure. Pilot Art Goebel and navigator William V. Davis, Jr. take us with them on the Woolaroc, their orange and blue Travel Air monoplane (NX869) as they enter the hazardous world of Golden Age trans-oceanic air racing.

MANUFACTURERS OF AIRCRAFT THAT ARE SIGNED IN THE REGISTERS, 1925-1942

The Registers of Delta Mike Airfield, Inc. recorded landings by thousands of individual aircraft. These aircraft comprised 166 unique manufacturer marques, or brands. Each brand recorded in one of the Registers is listed in the the table below.

This table is a direct linking source to the Web sites that enables you to go directly to an aircraft manufacturer. From there, and from the AIRPLANES button at top right of each Web page, you can link to the individual airplanes on the sites that landed at the airfields. Note that 185 pilots failed to identify the brand of aircraft they were flying, and six were unreadable. Numbers are approximate, since new data are entered regularly to the databases.

The numbers in the second column are the numbers of landings made by that brand of aircraft at the Airfields between 1925 and 1942. Another way of saying this is that there were 54 landings by Aeromarine aircraft and 356 by Lockheed aircraft. This number may include multiple landings by the same airplane. For example, the 356 Lockheed landings were made by at least 119 different airplanes. And, of 652 landings by Fokker aircraft, 95 of them were by Fokker Universal NC3317.

YOU CAN HELP

I'm looking for information about all these aircraft brands, especially inside information you don't find in textbooks (see, for example, the link to Inland).

I'm interested in vintage and current aerial views of the manufacturing facilities, photographs of company principals of the era, and images of new aircraft models on the ramp at the factory.

If you have have information of this type you'd like to share, please use this FORM to contact me. That goes, too, for hyperlinks to relevant information (URLs).
