Stills from the Movie...

The thirteen images below are screen captures from the Turner Classic Movies broadcast of the film. There are instructive historic similarities between the photographs in Ace Bragunier's album and some of the stills below.

Heart of the North, Still 1

Commentary

STILL #1: This wide image is a scene in the Canadian town where the Mounties are located.

Compare this still with the photo from Ace's album, here.

Heart of the North, Still 2

STILL #2: This is a close-up of the dock shown in the image above. Note and compare the position of the steam boat.

There is no mention of Paul Mantz or Ace Bragunier in the opening or closing credits of this film.

STILL #3: Dick Foran (as Sgt. Alan Baker with paddle) and co-star Allen Jenkins (as Cpl. Bll Hardsock) prepare to board the airplane.

Note "RCMP" on the bow of the canoe.

STILL #4: Mountie Jenkins takes the rear cockpit.

STILL #5: Foran, and his Mountie sidekick Allen Jenkins (standing), fly out after the baddies.

Compare Jenkins with this image from Ace's album.

STILL #6: Obvious miniature of biplane C.F.-O.A.X. takes off with Foran and Jenkins.

These screen stills are shown here in the spirit of the "fair use" clause of the U.S. Copyright Law, as an historic, instructional contrast of the finished movie with the personal snapshots included in Ace Bragunier's personal photograph album.

STILL #7: Foran is firing a Thompson submachine gun at the baddies who are firing at the plane from below.

STILL #8: This and the next image show the plane miniature on fire and landing after being hit by gunfire from the ground.

STILL #9:

STILL #10: This still shows Foran and Jenkins exiting the burning plane.

Compare this image with this one from Ace's photograph album. The pictures were taken seconds apart.

STILL #11: This and the next image show the aftermath of the ground fire. The airplane explodes after Foran and Jenkins depart to shore.

STILL #12: The pontoon plane (or at least the model of it) CF-OAX is completely destroyed by fire.

STILL #13: This is another miniature airplane with the number C.F.-O.A.M. that appears later in the film. This plane number is what is shown on the lobby card, below.

Finally, at left, is a "lobby card" for the movie. The lobby card scene is from the end of the film, where Foran brings the captured baddies back on the new plane. In the film, several are strapped and tied on to the wing struts!

From the looks of the noose, their fates are known.
