This book describes and illustrates with black & white photographs the majority of military aircraft that landed at the Davis-Monthan Airfield between 1925 and 1936. This airplane is a Douglas O-2H observation plane, 29-348. It landed at Tucson Friday, February 22, 1929. It was flown solo by 1st Lt. Walter R. Peck (who brought sister ship, 29-392, through Tucson the following July). It also had about the same itinerary as sister ship 29-343, which had passed through Tucson on February 19th. Pilot Peck noted in the Remarks column of the Register, "H.W." probably meaning head wind.

This photograph is from Ms. Tretter's father's album, and it was probably photographed at Camp Knox, KY. The airplane was assigned to the Indiana National Guard at the time.

The insignia is that of the 38th Infantry Division ("Cyclone"), an Indiana National Guard organization based at Stout Field, Indianapolis, IN. According to Joe Baugher's site, 29-388 and its sister ships, 29-375 through 404, were all Douglas O-2H models with serial numbers 575 through 604. They were all designated for National Guard service.
