PIPER AIRCRAFT CORPORATION

LOCK HAVEN, PA

INCOMPLETE

Courtesy of YouTube, there is a 27-minute film of a J-3 Cub being assembled at the Piper factory. The film was made in 1943 and shows how the steel frame of the airplane was built up on jigs, how the fabric covering was applied and coated, flight controls installed and how the completed airplane was inspected and tested.

You'll notice in the film there is little evidence of OSHA-type safety devices. For example, some of the painters apply highly toxic aircraft dope without face masks; workers do not wear eye or hearing protection.

There were 27 landings by Cub aircraft across the databases. Some aircraft landed and signed a Register more than once. These include Taylor E-2 Cubs NC14707, NC15095, NC2735, and J-2 Cubs NC15359, NC15567, NC16343, NC16346, NC16652, NC16653 and NC20097

In addition, there were ten landings by two California Cubs NC137W and NC337H.

Below is a a photograph I took some years ago of a Taylor E-2 Cub instrument panel. The photo is blurry, but I can make out that this airplane was serial number 12, which was originally registered NC10594 (not a Register airplane).
