LOCKHEED VEGA Model 1 NC7894

“WASHED OUT”

This airplane is a Lockheed Vega Model 1 (S/N 29; ATC #49) manufactured November 10, 1928 by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, Burbank, CA.  It left the factory with a Wright Whirlwind J-5C engine (S/N 9235) of 220 HP.  It was a five-place airplane.

It sold on December 11, 1928 to the Schlee-Brock Aircraft Corporation, Detroit, MI.  It was flown from Duluth, MN during October 1929 on the routes of Arrowhead International Airlines, a Schlee-Brock subsidiary.

NC7894 landed twice at Tucson, on March 9, 1929 and February 6, 1930.  On March 9th, it was flown to Tucson solo by Marion Sterling.   Based in Detroit, he was westbound from El Paso, TX to Los Angeles, CA.

NC7894 sold on November 11, 1929 to M. & S. Company, Antigo, WI.  Its second landing on February 6th was flown solo by W.W. Smith.  He was northwest bound from El Paso to Phoenix, AZ.  Our airplane had only a couple of more months of service.

It suffered an accident at St. Paul, MN on April 30, 1930 and was reported as “washed out.”  No further information.
